Frequently Asked Questions

How long has Tustin Dance Center been in business?
TDC was established in 1978. The current owner, Barbara Schramm, is entering her 19th year with TDC.

What age do you start your dancers?
We start regular classes at age 3. We also have Mommy and Me classes, starting at 18 months. Kindermusik is a separate program we offer and starts at 0 (yes, zero, months.)

How do I register?
Registration may be done at the studio. You may call the studio or print our registration form and medical consent form and send it to the studio. A phone call assures availability in classes.

Do you give sibling or multiple class discounts?
Yes. We have always given discounts to siblings and to those dancers who take multiple classes.

How large are your classes?
We try to limit most classes to 12. We do, however, believe that when dancers reach a higher level of dance, they can handle the energy of larger classes. Always, instructors work with each dancer individually and regard each dancer according to his/her ability.

How do you place students?
Beginners start in beginning classes. We will move a dancer when we feel that the level is not appropriate. It is more important for the dancer to learn in an environment that is motivating and proper for his/her age level but in some cases a dancer will be put in a class that is not necessarily obvious to the parent. The teacher knows the curriculum taught and each form of dance must be learned and executed well before the dancer is advanced to the next level.

What is the attire?
In “mini” classes, the dancers may wear any color leotard and tights. Hair should be neatly secured so as not to fall into the face. Dancers aged 8 and up need to wear leotards and tights and either jazz pants or shorts. In ballet classes, skirts are permitted with leotards and tights. Hip hop classes may wear looser clothing (not baggy) and tennis shoes.

Do you have an annual recital?
Yes, every June we have a performance that showcases every dancer in our studio. Every class has a separate dance unique to the class.

Do all students have to perform in the recital?
No, recital performance is optional. We believe that it is a great experience for every dancer to perform in front of an audience made up of loving parents, relatives, and friends. It has become a wonderful family show and is enjoyed by all. Close to 100% of our dancers perform in this show.

What about costumes?
Costumes for our annual recital are ordered in January, purchased by the parents, and then belong to the dancer. They are ordered by the studio and usually arrive 3 months after the order is placed.

Do you sell dancewear?
We sell shoes, tights and bags. We do not carry leotards but offer coupons or suggestions where to go for such items.

How long are classes?
Most classes are one hour in length.

Do you offer private classes?
Yes, we offer private classes in all areas of dance and in half hour and one hour increments.

What is your yearly schedule?
We offer classes beginning in September through June. We offer summer classes which begin after the June recital.

What are Performing Groups?
Performing Groups are just that. They are made up of dancers who are interested in the different forms of dance. They perform in various areas in the community and at competitions around Orange, LA and San Diego counties. Dancers in these groups audition in June for the following year. They are required to take summer classes and then regularly attend their classes throughout the year.

Do you have any other performances?
Yes, we have a Nutcracker performance (by audition) that occurs in December. Parents are involved in the success of this program.
