Nutcracker Frequently Asked Questions

When is my contract and participation fee due?

The deadline to turn in your contract, including participation fee is August 1st. We have scheduled a second audition for outside dancers from our community. If we have not received your contract by August 1st, we will assume you have decided not to participate, and we will recast your parts at our second audition.

Are rehearsals mandatory?

Yes!  Absolutely!  Each group has a limited number of rehearsals before we begin to run the entire show, so be sure you can commit to all rehearsals before turning in your contract.

What do I wear?

To all rehearsals, dress rehearsals, costume fittings, etc. you should wear pink tights, pink or black leotard, ballet shoes, and your hair in a neat, secure bun.  Boys need to wear white t-shirts, black tights, black shoes.

Do I get to keep my costume?

No.  The cost of the elaborate Nutcracker costumes is far too much to ask parents to purchase costumes year after year.  Instead, we are assembling a set of high quality costumes that will be carefully cleaned and stored for the following year.

Where will the shows be held?

The 2011 performance of The Nutcracker is scheduled for December 17th at the Nechita Center for the Arts on the campus of the Lutheran High School of Orange County, 2222 N. Santiago Blvd., Orange, CA, 92867.

How many shows will there be?

There will be two shows -- 2:00pm and 7:00pm.

What about volunteering?

We require that each family commit to at least one volunteer position.  We have made available opportunities that require time but not money, money but not time, commitments that can be done far before the show, commitments that require time during the show, and opportunities that definitely put your talents to work!  We’re sure everyone will find a way to help us put on such a massive production in a way that is fun and comfortable.

Why can't I find my parts on the rehearsal schedule?

  • Party Scene Dancers, Maids, Clara, Fritz, Clara's Friends, Doll, Soldier, and Harlequin are all part of the Party Scene and should be prepared to attend Party Scene rehearsals.
  • Snow Queen and Snow Corps should attend Snow Scene rehearsals.
  • Arabian Lead and Arabian Corps should attend Arabian rehearsals.
  • Chinese Lead and Chinese Corps should attend Chinese rehearsals.
  • Spanish Lead and Spanish Corps should attend Spanish rehearsals.
  • Dewdrop, Petals, and Waltz dancers are all part of the Waltz of the Flowers and should attend Flowers rehearsal

In November, should I attend Act I rehearsals on Saturdays or Act II rehearsals on Sundays?

  • Angels need to attend only the Act 2 rehearsals on Sundays from 1:00-2:30.
  • Act 1 rehearsals will include Party Scene, Mice, Rats, Rat King, Soldiers, and Snow Scene.
  • Act 2 rehearsals will include Angels, Spanish, Russian, Merlitons, Chinese, Arabian, Gingersnaps, Mother Ginger, and Waltz of the Flowers.

How will tickets be sold?

Will any professional photographs be available?

A professional videographer will be taping at the performances and DVDs will be available for you to purchase.  For the safety of the dancers and comfort of other patrons, absolutely no photography or videotaping is allowed, with or without flash.

Will Nutcracker T-shirts be offered again this year?

What is the Gala Party?

Will we be having a cast party?

Yes. The cast party will be held on the Sunday immediately after the Nutcracker  performance. Please save the date!

I know someone who likes to donate to the Arts.  Do you accept donations?
