Paloma Perez-Rojas is a current student at the University of
California, Irvine pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts in dance with
specializations in Performance and Choreography as well as a B.A. in
Education Science.
Paloma was born in Utah, but spent her childhood in Chile and Mexico
before settling in Utah where she officially began her dance journey at the
age of 11 at a small local competitive studio. At the same time, she attended
a performing arts middle school before moving onto Tuacahn High School for
the Performing Arts. Her first year there, she joined the esteemed dance
company where she later became the president.
Paloma began creating group dances on her peers since the age of 14
while training in ballet and modern through Lester Horton, Martha Graham, and
Cunningham techniques. Additionally, she got to work with and learn various
repertoires from dancers of companies such as Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company,
Ballet West, Repertory Dance Theatre, Salt Contemporary Dance and perform
with Odyssey Dance Theatre at the Tuacahn Amphitheater for their annual show,
Thriller!
Paloma ended her education at Tuacahn High School for the Performing
Arts earning four dance letters and "Dance Student of the Year".
Currently, Paloma has been passionately working with the students at Tustin
Dance Center while attending the university and being a part of their
official hip hop team, MCIA. During her time before graduation, she is
working closely with the professors and graduate students in Modern, Ballet,
and Jazz through technique classes and intermittent performances as well as
diving into creating her own choreography through the mentorship of those
professors.
Then, Paloma hopes to move out of the country and
specialize in professional concert dance performance and later using her
teaching and student experience to choreograph for concert dance.
